When I get excited about making a change, I am an all-in, go big or go home kind of person. How about you?
Take healthy living, for example, it's not uncommon for people to dive in and go from zero to 60 right out of the gates. We want results, we want them fast and we want to ensure that all of our hard work will pay off. So we double down.
The problem is that this isn't sustainable in many cases. Or you'd already be doing it!
And that's not just for moms, but definitely more pronounced. We moms like to be effective and efficient. We don't have time to dabble in things. So when we decide to prioritize our health, I often see mamas trying to get to 4 or 5 classes a week and restricting their diets to make sure they get those elusive results.
And while that often works and they feel great about their progress, that momentum hasn't yet built itself. Every effort takes work. And then their kid gets sick and can't go to the daycare at the gym, or family is in town, or there's a weekend in wine country with their partner....
Ya feel me?
As we're half way through the second week of the Final Day 90 Challenge, let's take a breath and check in with ourselves. In my coaching experience, week 3 is around when I see people start dropping off. That full throttle approach they started with gets interrupted, or the fuel tank approaches empty and they come puttering to a stop.
So how about we don’t do that this time?
Haven't gotten started yet? That's okay - I bet you've been thinking about it, though. And that's getting some changes going in that beautiful brain of yours. So hop on board now and let's start DOING.
Going a bit harder than you feel is sustainable in the long run? That's okay, too! Do what feels good, but make sure you are focusing on the lifestyle changes, the mindset and finding the routines that you can make work on the reg.
We do want results and we do want that hard work to pay off in dividends. That's why we're doing this, after all! But we want the focus during these last 90 days of 2019 is on building momentum and creating the healthy habits that will allow you to find a routine that you can sustain.
So when we hit 2020, we are empowered, confident and energized to make it our best year yet!
Health hiccups, indulgent trips, and stressful weeks will be handled and survived without derailing your efforts or slowing your momentum.
Those weeks when you CAN get to the gym 5x or stick to a Whole 30 plan truly are awesome if that's what you like. Make that happen when you can, but keep your focus on those times in between. The mindset, the habits and the resources you can tap into to take you week by week and month by month toward your goals and beyond.
Home workouts are such a great way to release the stress of someone or something being in control of your fitness other than you. Even 5 minutes is SO much better than no minutes! SO SO much better. I'm posting some great workouts FREE in the Savage Moms Facebook group this week and for the rest of the year, so if you're not already a member of the Virtual Gym or our online community, head over and get inspired!
And while this may not be the case for you, I want to also touch on the effectiveness of a class vs. a solo workout. While you may feel like you’re pushing harder in a gym because you’re “sweating more,” or it lasts longer, it’s been shown that shorter workouts done on your own will be much more effective in terms of strength building and even caloric output as it’s common for people to be less focused on form and merely going through the motions in a class or group environment, making all that time, money and effort less effective than you think!
